kirsten and shaylin chapter 14-15 questions


chapter 14
1. what different interpretations did the towns people make of the lights visible on the mountains?
ANSWER: Some people thought it was from the dragon and some people thought that it was gold from the king.

2. Characterize Bard and the master. What techniques does Tolkien use to encourage you to contrast the two men?
ANSWER: Bard is the captain and grim voice and a grim faced guy. The master is like the new king and he is male. He is also trying to be clever in ways.

3. How is the setting of the town important in this chapter?
ANSWER: The town is important because the chapter mostly takes place in their also it has many events take place.

4. Was there any situational irony for you in this chapter? Any predictions fullfilled?
ANSWER:This chapter was mostly voyaging but when they met the master they had another story behind it.

5. What motives guided the wood-elves journey east?
ANSWER: What motives the wood-elves is that they hear about gold. Also the dwarves promised them gold.

6. What do you predict will happen in this next chapter? What indications do you have that this is possible?
ANSWER: I think that things will get too kaotic and someone will get hurt or die. It is that they are all getting in trouble.

Chapter 15
1. what role(S) have talking animals played in the plot of this story so far?
ANSWER: the crows were have a very rude conversation with them. But they were old raven came for help.

2. Bilbo thought "that the adventure was, properly speaking, over with the death of the "dragon" and the narrator says he is wrong. what enemies might the company have? What do you think might happen?
ANSWER: I think that some of the enemies are the elves, goblins, and the talking crows. i think that someone(S) gets in a fight and kills someone or hurts someone on accident.

3. What did the company do while they waited for the armies to approach?
ANSWER: They sang a song to past the time.

4. How did thorin react to the elves and men? How did the rest of the company feel? How do you know?
ANSWER: He didnt want to see them and he had a fit. But the company didnt even want to speak to them. They acted like they are throwing a fit and spoke no more.

5. Compare and contrast the dwarves' song on pages 261-262 with their songs on pages 13-15?
ANSWER: The both of the songs have to do with spells and gold and silver. Also about musical instruments.

6. Bard and Thorin each present their views of the situation. How do you judge the situation?
ANSWER: They were talking about splitting the gold. Also we thought it was selfish because one of them wanted more profit.

7. WHat causes Thorin's hardness of heart?
ANSWER: he wanted it all to himself and he was also too selfish.
