1. how does Bilbo react to the loss of the company? how does the company react to Bilbo's loss? What conclusions can u draw?
Bilbo freakes out and then encourages himself to find the dwarves. the company doesn't really care if they lost Bilbo but Gandalf is very angry. the conclusions are that the dwarves are impressed by Bilbo's ability to come out of the cave alive and by himself.
2. Compare and contrast Bilbo's story of what happened to him and what the narrator said happened to him? What would you have done if you were Bilbo? How do you account the differences?
In Bilbo's story he doesn't mention that he found the ring, but in the narrator version he finds that the rings gives him invisability powers. he left that part out because he wants to wait before revealing his secret. if we were Bilbo we would have told the dawrves about the special ring and it's powers especially to Gandalf.
3. How has Bilbo changed since chap 1?
He has turned more clever and adventurist.
4. Riddle competitions have been used since permative times to decide the faith of someone or something. how was this tradition reflected in the company's reaction to Bilbo's story?
They looked to him with more respect since he had beaten Gollum.
5. what functions does the setting serve in this chapter?
being stuck in the trees makes the chapter more exciting because they on fire and they are on the trees.
6. one of the techniques Tolkien uses to support the conceit that the narrator is relating true history , is to make connections between the origins of the real world language and the imaginary world of the story. in chapter 1 he has the narrator explain the origins of the game of golf. How does he use this technique in chapter 6? he uses the technique to talk about how Goblins rode the wargs as horses.
